Joyce E. Elliott Pride Scholarship
Joyce E Elliott joined Empire State College in 1998 and retired in 2014. She served as regional academic administrator and held the positions of associate dean, director, and dean of the Northeast Center. She went on to serve as provost and vice president for academic affairs, a position where she was responsible for college-wide academic leadership, academic programs and policies, new program and program review, academic personnel policies and procedures, labor-management relations, planning, budgeting and staffing.
When the State University of New York Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Dr. Joyce Elliott as the interim president of the State University of New York Empire State College, Joyce accepted her new position and stated, ”It is an honor for me to serve Empire State College in this new capacity. We have a tremendous faculty and staff and a remarkable student body. This is a vibrant institution dedicated to providing adult learns genuine access to a college degree through a unique academic model.”
Joyce earned her Doctorate and Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of New Hampshire. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
A committed educator, community volunteer and advocate for the LBGQT community, she established this scholarship to speak to her values and to leave an enduring legacy to the college.
