The Estate of Virginia Weiss
Virginia Weiss ’88 Scholarship
Established through a bequest by the late Virginia Weiss ’88.
Virginia Weiss was a member of the class of 1988 and died in 1999 at age 83. She was a Buffalo native and received a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in European Studies, with particular focus on the literature and history of France and Germany, the countries of her parents’ origin. She enrolled at the college at the age of 72, and indicated she had two reasons for doing so: she wanted to catch up to her brothers who, unlike her, were given the opportunity to go to college in their youth; and in retirement, she found the activities of senior citizen centers not very challenging and she wanted to challenge herself intellectually. After her death, along with the establishment of her scholarship, an art gallery was dedicated in her name at the Buffalo location.
